Definitely worth asking cause there’s been families fleeing McLean in droves as a result of their merger situation. I think it’s affected the boys side mainly.

If you're new to the area and couldn't make tryouts, most clubs, McLean included, are probably willing to accept any decent soccer player.

I have zero first hand knowledge, but have heard from other parents, online here and in real life, that Mclean is having some difficulties. Not sure I would chose them unless they are by far the most conveniently located club for your kid AND your kid is young (like under 10).

On the boys side McLean has fallen off the cliff the past 2-3 years.

SYC’s dumping of VA Union to focus exclusively (smart) on MLSNext was the final nail in the coffin.

All the McLean departures for Arlington are baked in at this point, but can’t hurt to ask. I heard McLean has been pretty frustrated with the acceptance rates, particularly on the boys side, so they could make some room if the kid has good experience and can play. There are a lot of holes to fill, which will probably take years to bring the teams back to the level they were at pre-pandemic.
