Who has filed and is running for school board? I know Jacinta Greene and Abdel Elnoubi are running for city council. What does the district signify or mean? According to the precinct map, our school zones are in two different districts. Is that typical and what does it mean? |
OP, in my experience, the school board members don't really pit on school/ zone over another, it's more about not having an over-representation of certain neighborhoods. What is your elementary school zone, and are you in A, B, or C? |
I think perhaps school board candidates have not been announced since those are non-partisan positions and they don’t have to run in the primary. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Also, does this mean that if Greene or Elnoubi do not win for City Council in the primary, they can still run for their school board seats again? |
Alex Scioscia is attempting to get on the ballot:

I assume Simpson Baird is running for reelection as she recently filed an amended statement of organization.

Yes, Simpson Baird has announced that she is running for reelection. No mention of how much time she wasted on promoting change of the Board’s election cycle. |
I'm in Zone A. My kids are at LCTA. |
Should I know who this person is? Is he a parent or well-known in the community? Please tell me more. I have not heard of him. |
I got an invitation to "like" Chris Harris' School Board page. It looks like he is running for reelection.
Michelle Rief and Tim Beatty in District A. There is a vacant spot. I saw on the campaign finance reports Ryan Reyna is running. Looks like he is a MVCS dad. For District B, it is Ashley Simpson Baird and Alex Scioscia. I heard Kelly Booz was running again. Scioscia seems to be a recent grad of TC Williams from his social media and website. I heard there is a Polk parent running but don't see anything online. For District C, it's Abdulahi Abdalla, Chris Harris and Donna Kenley. Abdalla and Kenley seem active in ADC. |
Not necessarily. He's a young man, maybe 22, 24, who has lived in Alexandria his entire life. He stopped by my house in my condo complex to get signatures to get on the school board ballot. Nice guy. Said he was previously a part of Simpson-Baird's campaign for school board. I spoke with him for a bit detailing my daughter's experiences at JH, and her current experience at GW. |
I’ve already heard at least 2 “concerned citizens” say he’s inappropriate because he doesn’t have kids in ACPS, even though he was a kid in ACPS very recently. |
Don't half the school board's kids go private? Wasn't he last superintendent rightfully blasted for sending his own kids to private? |
My hope is he would try something new, based on my speaking with him, but if elected, he may yet fall in line behind every other school board member who's done horsesh**. Also depends on who else ends up on the ballot for District B. |
You dont have to have kids in ACPS to be a productive school board member, and insisting that you do only narrows down and already narrow pool. |
Eh. There are many of us that think with all the issues in ACPS it would be better for our leaders to actually have kids in the system. It’s kind of insane actually - you don’t believe in the public schools enough to have your own kids enrolled? It is damn upsetting. |
