Name- addressed as Mr. instead of Mrs.

Anonymous
Would you be offended? I have a name that is spelled unique but clearly is feminine.
In an e-mail I received the person wrote "Mr." to address me.

Has this happened to anyone? What's bothering me is that this has never happened before so I'm wondering if they are doing it on purpose?

Sounds like a mistake. Why would you go around looking to be offended?

No I would not be offended. But general my first reaction to things isn't to take offense so....

+1

It is a one-letter difference, OP. One letter. Surely a typo. Not something to take personally in the slightest degree.

Is this email about something very serious like a job interview or offer, a legal issue, or some other crucial business matter? I can't figure out why a one-letter mistake would rattle someone so badly unless (1) it was done frequently, which isn't what you're saying happened, or (2) the mistake was in a very serious communication from a sender who knew me personally. If neither is true -- think about why this is taking up so much head space for you.

This happens to me all the time.its annoying but whatever

I write formal letters and emails a lot. We no longer use a title because of things like this. Our emails read:

Dear Alex Smith:

Is Alex a boy or a girl? How would anyone know?

Why do you care?

Either a simple typo, or even if you think your name is clearly feminine the sender didn't think so. Maybe they know a man with the same unique name or something similar and therefore their mind when masculine.

Unless there's a reason to think it was deliberately offensive, I'd encourage you not to be offended.

I have a unisex name and this happens to me all the time. If I'm writing back in either an email or letter, sometimes I sign Ms. Blankity Blank. But I don't really care and I do not give it a second thought.

You need to list your pronouns in your email signature.

It likely could have been an oversight OP.

Try not to take offense.

I identify people by gender I feel like to identify them. If gender is fluid, then you can be Mr. for me on Monday.

Are you a BBBBB?

I don't think getting upset about this would even have crossed my mind, OP. Obviously it's a typo.
