I posted about the grad dinner with some seniors. The grad would love one of these options.
We haven’t been to either. Which is better? And, how is it if you don’t do the AYCE option. Several of the seniors especially don’t eat a lot and would probably just get the salad bar or the option for that and one meat option. Will that be weird? The grad would love all the meat. |
| I would not take a bunch of seniors there. |
| Please read the Yelp reviews before doing this. You won't go after. It's a tourist gimmick. You won't get the meats you want and it is super expensive |

Haven't been to Chima, but have been to Fogo multiple times. We enjoy it, and contrary to PPs, I think it would work fine for a grad dinner (there are often tables of large parties). Not sure about the various options that are not AYCE, because we've always just done everything, but I can say that the salad bar is definitely more than enough for dinner if you don't want to do the meat.
The restaurant is gimmicky, for sure, so don't expect the highest quality meat in the world -- but plenty of it is delicious. |
| Since the original Fogo is considered a top churrascaria in Sao Paulo, I would go there. |
Why do you think it is a gimmick? |
I’ve been to and enjoyed both, but my totally subjective preference is Chima. I like the salad bar options and the restaurant space more. I would double-check the meat options for those who opt out of the AYCE. My recollection is that you choose one of three options, the salad bar only, the salad bar plus AYCE meat, or the a la carte menu of steaks and such. I’m not sure if you can do a limited AYCE meat option (like just one meat) and the salad bar. So if anyone in the party is committed to that, might be worth checking first. |
I’m Brazilian. It’s a type of restaurant/type of food that started in the South of Brazil. We have rodizio churrascarias in Brazil but the quality in Brazil is usually better and it’s just a very specific type of establishment. Brazil has tons of really good dishes and it makes me sad that churrascarias are the only type of Brazilian food that’s caught on outside of places with more Brazilians like NYC and Boston. For what it’s worth OP-I think Chima is better but it’s been a while since I’ve been to either place. |
| Pike and Rose Fogo is great and will be a good choice. |
| I prefer Chima to Fogo and have never had a problem getting the meats we wanted. |
| Both are setup for groups. Are you in MD or VA? I live in Tyson’s / Reston / Great Falls area and would suggest Tyson’s Chima over all the other in Nova. Have seen multiple groups there for events (birthdays, homecoming / prom, work events etc). |

I like the drinks at fogo better than China. China has shrimp and salmon and I like the roasted pineapple there.
Texas de Brazil is a third option and they have a discount card called VIP right now which could help with the costs. The salad bar leaves a lot to be desired and I would go with just waters there because the drinks aren’t great but the meats are seasoned well there. |
| Dang it obviously I didn’t mean China |
