This is a present for someone who has expressed interest in “grilling more” but I think they mean “cooking outside.” Birthday person rarely cooks on our decrepit 20 year old charcoal grill, finds it a pain so I want to prioritize easy for the non grill/griddle snob.
I see so many people raving about the black stone griddle (except for steak, which we don’t eat anyway) I’m tempted to get that. It also looks a lot easier to clean. Any advice? |

I have several outdoor cooking toys and the Blackstone is awesome.
I cook steak on mine, sometimes on the griddle sometimes in cast iron if I am basting it. Easy to clean and you need to take care of it but it's awesome The least used toy I have is a gas grill. |

We have both and use both pretty regularly during the warm months. Depends on what you eat. The griddle is really good for making a ton of different types of food from pancakes for a crowd to cheesesteaks to fried rice.
Gas grill is for bbq chicken, burgers etc. |

The griddle is our most used item of our 4 grills 😬
I would get that one over a gas grill. |
| Get it from Costco. |
| I like to grill and I have no interest in cooking things like pancakes, bacon, eggs, shredded potatoes, etc, outdoors. It’s too damn hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I’d prefer a grill. |
Hmm we’ve never used it for breakfast items. We use it for burgers (yes I suppose we do cook the bacon on there if anyone wants it), onions and peppers along with chicken for fajitas, any of those Trader Joe’s marinated things like the shawarma chicken thighs, steak…but no I’ve never wanted to go outside to make breakfast on it. |
You can cook bacon on a gas grill with cast iron. I do this all the time. I have a cast iron reversible grill plate from Le Creuset (bought in Germany) that I can use indoors on a cook top or outdoors on any grill. |
| You can get the Weber gas grill with the flat tip insert - best of both! |

Gas grills are much easier to use than charcoal grills. I think the key question is does the person want to actually grill.
I use our gas grill year round, and find it’s the best way to cook chicken, hamburgers, and grilled vegetables. I would not be happy if I asked for a grill and got some sort of other outdoor cooking contraption. But - it sounds like other folks love the outdoor griddle. Maybe pry a little to find out if the person just likes the idea of cooking outside or wants a grill. |
