Any tips on where to watch or how early to get there? We have DOD IDs so planning to go into the Naval Academy at Gate 1. How big of a zoo will it be? |
Stay away |
The show isn't until 2:00, but there's a flyby earlier.
You definitely want to be on the yard well before 10:30. https://www.usna.edu/CommissioningWeek/schedule.php#maywed |
Gross. |
3.5 hours early? I’m getting such conflicting advice. I read an hour early would be sufficient. |
Envy |
Did you actually look at the link I provided? USNA gates are closed to traffic from 11-4. If you want to just be somewhere in Annapolis, an hour is fine. (But again - look at the link for bridge closures). But if you want to get into the yard, showing up at 1:00 won’t cut it. |
Why? |
I used to live in Annapolis.3 hours early. Trust me. It’s the busiest time of year. |
Ick. We don’t need to waste millions on jingoistic nonsense.
Imagine if we invested the money we put into those shows and their “training” into our schools. |
Shouldn't you be busy volunteering somewhere? |
Yes - I actually did. It says closed to vehicular traffic. I read to park elsewhere and walk in. This is why I’m asking though and I appreciate the response. |
I don’t think you appreciate how crowded downtown Annapolis is going to be. You won’t be able to park within walking distance of the academy at 1:00.
People who actually go onto the yard get there early, bring a picnic, and make a day of it. If you want to just go an hour early, your best bets are the rooftop of a parking garage at Annapolis mall or the world war 2 memorial on the east side of the Severn River in route 2. (Also, you don’t need dod id to get into USNA on foot, but make sure all adults have government ID) |
Last year we parked on the Yard at 10am and walked around downtown and had lunch. Walked back by 1 and got a great spot by Hopper Hall. |
So gross glorifying war machines. |
