Normal or extra-long bed rail for toddler?

I think we are going to have to move 3-year-old into a big bed very soon. He’s resisting his crib more and more. He will probably sleep in a daybed at least to start. I want to get a bed rail for him but don’t know whether to get a normal (35.5” long) or extra-long (59” long or the length of the bed) length. The normal length will obviously allow him to get in and out of the bed on his own whereas the extra-long one would hopefully contain him. Both make sense to me for different reasons so not sure which to get. What did you do?

They need to either be contained or not. If they are kindof contained they will try to climb out and potentially hurt themselves.

The extra long is not the length of the bed unless it’s a toddler bed; it allows about a foot of space to get in and out.

It depends on how your kid sleeps. Mine spins around in her sleep so she needs the extra long.
