Is QOSA the new JFD?

Anonymous
I got an email from the QO Swim Academy -- a new club. A lot of staff seem to be from JFD -- wondering if perhaps JFD is scaling back? Curious about the lay of the land before I email to ask as it seems complicated.

looks like most jfd coaches left and started a new club.

Anyone know what went down? Or what is going down?

Wow - Shannon is the head coach there?! That is… not good for JFD.

JFD said Joe is scaling back and turned the team over to Shannon/Kyle under new ownership and management. JFD will no longer compete in meets. They will continue to coach seniors at GP location. End of an era!

PP directly above you - thanks for the info! I wonder why the coach bios on the QOSA page say nothing about JFD if it's a planned transition. It's a little weird.

In any case, yes, end of an era and too bad for down-county MoCo swimmers, who are losing a good option!

I'm sure it's complicated. At the end of the season Joe announced it was always his plan to turn the team over but it's just coming a couple years sooner than he had planned. Why that is I do not know. Joe said to reach out for coaching at GP but that he isn't expecting to be able to do meets given the reduction in staff.

Well that probably explains why I could never get a response when calling/emailing about team availability for my junior next year.

Absolutely - these things happen. We have friends whose kids have really liked JFD (at Prep), hoping those families find a good option, if they want to continue swimming. And thanks, PP.

We're in Potomac and there aren't a ton of lower key year round swim options so this is a loss. With this and the closure of KSAC there's going to be some shuffling of year round options.

I would expect Tollefson to get a lot of inquiries since they also practice at GP. I hope the down county JFD swimmers find somewhere to swim if they want to continue with club swimming.

Bummer for us down county folks given the timing of this along with KSAC RMSC issues.

I don’t understand the connection to the Chinese Culture and Service Center.

QOSTC is one of the seven operating divisions of the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCCC). So, essentially they own the pool. My sense is that they might also own the Academy?

Tollefson is a great team with solid coaches!
