Best bread bakery - north DC, South MoCo

Anonymous
Ok y'all, my favorite bread has changed bakers and it now sucks.

What are your favorites for just a basic, but delicious and high quality bakeries for bread.

While I am willing to drive some distance (5-6 miles max), I'm not trying to schlep all over the region just for my weekly bread spot so keep it to north DC, South MoCo (we're in 20910).

Thanks in advance hive!

Fresh Baguette also has stores in Georgetown and Cleveland Park, if you're in DC.

If you’re in 20910, does that mean it’s Spring Hill that now sucks? I would be bummed to hear that. I have to say, I’m partial to the bakery bread at MOM’s. I shop in College Park, but there’s probably one closer for you.

Oh I forgot about spring Hill!

No actually it's the Mom's bakery bread. They now contract all their bread baking to some bakery off-site and everything sucks and recipes are completely different. The college park one also now uses the same contracted bakery so they goods are consistent. I frequent both the Rockville and College park locations.

OP have you tried Breads Unlimited in Bethesda? That place is amazing.

Are you just looking for sandwich bread or European-style loaves? One benefit of my Hungry Harvest membership is that they get sliced sandwich bread from Lyon Bakery. During pandemic times, Lyon Bakery started doing residential deliveries--OMG--we would order so much stuff and the bags smelled so good. Never thought I'd look back fondly on the pandemic Also, O'Donnells in Potomac carries a lot of their breads and will order pretty much anything from them for you. The jalapeno cheddar rolls are a favorite in our house.

There are a couple people who started baking bread as a hobby and now sell on the weekends— one in Rockville and one in Bethesda that I’ve heard of but even as someone who loves good bread it seems a lots of trouble and I have never tried them (or even remember the contact info).
