If you're crafty, what's your craft of choice and why?

Anonymous
I was cleaning out my parents' house and came upon an embroidery kit my mom had bought me when I was in elementary school and she was trying to domesticate me. I can cook and sew, but I never really got into the other stuff.

Now, though, I can imagine that it would be nice to sit and create something. As I was zooming into the rabbit hole of people touting their craft of choice, I watched a video of an Englishwoman talking about how centering it is to be focused on your embroidery, and I believed her. I also believed the needlepointer singing the praises learning new stitches and the punch-needler talking about being able to create something that offers decor and tactile gratification and the knitter talking about making sweaters to donate and . . .

What do you love? What do you not love so much?

I do lots of different types of crafts. I find embroidery and painting furniture to be the most therapeutic.

I love to needlepoint! It's very satisfying to see the colors and patterns take shape! I've done Christmas stockings for my kids, eyeglass cases for my mom and mother-in-law, and pillows for various relatives. It's a very relaxing hobby that doesn't require a lot of concentration, so I do it while listening to Audible books.

Crochet

I learned it as a young kid and I'm fidgety. It gives my hands something to do.

I crochet. I like that you can make a wide variety of things, it can be complicated and challenging or simple and meditative depending on what pattern you are working on. It's also very portable if you are working on something small.

I liked embroidery when I was a teen and then got into sewing for a while. Hated knitting (couldn't get the hang of the two needles). Now I only sew to repair clothing and made my DD's Halloween costumes until she got old enough that she wanted to take over the creation.

My kid and i are working our way through a wooble kit. It's something she would buy any way to hang on her backpack, so i want her to know she can also make it

I do various things. I like to have a project I can work on while watching a show. My baseline is a simple flannel baby blanket on which I hand sew saying binding and monograms. I also make baby quilts, do some embroidery. I sometimes knit small projects, though I am not a great knitter.

My puppy befriended an orphaned fox kit. They're best friends. There was even a time where the fox helped my dog fight off a bear.

I do a variety of fiber arts. I spin yarn, knit, weave and needle felt. I find weaving the most therapeutic because of the repetition.

I like embroidery. I've even taken some online classes at the Royal School of Needlework to learn how to use gold threads.

I also sew, but nowadays it's almost cheaper to buy clothes than to buy material to make clothes.
