DD would like to try different clubs to find the one she likes most (don't know if this is common practice). If she leaves her current club and tries out for it in 1-2 years, will they still accept her (provided she still meets their standards)?
As long as you leave on good terms, yes.
Thank you! |
The above is generally the case but in my experience there’s some bitter coaches who hold grudges on departures even if seemingly on good terms.

From what I have seen clubs rank players as a caste system this time of year. Kids outside the program as 1st class citizens (aka free new money), returning players as 2nd class and former players as 3rd class.
But in the end I wouldn't worry about it too much as there are so so many clubs in the DMV. And the kids move around a lot that your kid will most likely have friends on a bunch of them. Word on the street is that when kids are young the program selects the kids and when they get older the actual coaches of the teams have more input. Of course every program is different. |
We've been offered higher teams then my player was on before we left the club when we went back for tryouts. They don't care.
I’ve seen it go both ways. Ridiculous how petty some adults can be about youth sports.
This is so club and coach specific that none of people’s general statements matter.
The bigger the club the less it will matter.
If it’s different age group coordinators when you try to come back then you should be ok. If it’s the same person, you run the risk of encountering a petty butthurt tool taking it out on your kid but who cares? Life is short and there’s a lot of clubs in the DMV.
There is so much turnover they might not even notice.
Yeah if it’s more than two years later your coach will be different and nobody will notice.
Personal experience is my DC is back to the original club for the 3rd time. Big club. So for us, it didn't matter. Different coach each time.
No - not if you piss off the wrong people.
Leave on good terms, it will be fine in my experience. Accept a spot and then bail in July, maybe not as fine.
