Anyone know how the seedings for the regional playoffs work? I think its different for each class/division, but I can't find any information online. DC's school is 3B and their district consists of Class 3 and 4 schools. They don't play half the schools in their class/division during the regular season and some schools will play some Class 5 and 6 schools, whereas others don't. Some might even play Class 1 or 2 schools, not sure. How does seeding work when everyone plays different schools?
The state playoffs is easy to understand, top two from the 4 regional playoffs make it, but the regional playoffs have me baffled. Even if it is for other Class/divisions, anyone have good info? |

From what i remember and this is dated, i haven't had a kid in HS for a couple years. First thing is District tournament, everyone makes it and seeding is based off regular season district record - At class 4, dulles district...i think the top 4 plus the highest losing seed from the first round. so basically if the #1 seed lost in the first round they'd still advance to regionals but they'd go to Regionals as the district 4 or 5 seed.
There is 8 teams for the regional tournament and depending on district size will determine how many allocations they get - 1 district might get 5 and another 3 or whatever the split is. But seeding at the regional tournament is based off the results of the district tournament which is based off regular season district record. |
Last year, before the realignment, that was how it worked for us, but it is different this year. No district tournament (I think). |
