Subaru Outback Hybrid in 2025?

Anonymous
Does anyone know if this is happening? We had looked at the Highlander hybrid but are now reconsidering if this becomes an option as it may be an on par but more cost effective option.

The Forester and Crosstrek hybrids will come out for 2025. No word on the Outback.

I do not think it will happen next year for the Outback, unfortunately.

Don’t worry, hybrid or not, it’ll still have the same shitty CVT that’ll start to sh!t the bed at 85k miles. Right about the same time the front CV axles start to chatter in turns under throttle.

Owned 3 Subarus. A 13 Crosstrek, a 15 Outback, and currently own a 19 Forester. All three had the same problems described above.

One is bad luck.

Twice is a coincidence.

Three times is enemy action.

Subaru is the enemy.

Really wish they'd bring back the Baja.

Right???!

Anyway, I have a 2013 Outback with 90K miles on it that has sat outside for the past 11.5 years and have not had any of the problems that PP described.

We had an ‘06 Outback that was nothing but trouble. Never again, Subaru, never again.

I had one. Wife had one when we met. Third one was a company car (Forester)

Perhaps I should’ve explained that so dolts like you people didn’t feel the need to chime in.

My 2004 Forestor started giving me trouble around 2018.

I think they fixed the gasket issue like in 2010 or so.

Now that my 10 year old 100k miles Outback has a new CVT transmission (no cost to me,100k extended warranty but I still had to fight for it), new wheel bearings, brakes and many maintenance expensive type repairs in past year… the engine started leaking oil.

It has NOT been reliable or cost effective in past few years. I’ll never buy another Subaru. My 20 year old Corolla still runs better and has been more reliable!

Will sell my 2019 Outback probably in 2027 when it hits 80K miles. Subaru should have a PHEV Outback by that time. They are in the process of incorporating Toyota’s battery and hybrid transmission tech.
