| hi there - wife and I are expecting in september and are trying to get ahead of daycares. we’ve been in shock at how crazy prices have been in arlington some ranging up to 700$ a week. any tips or daycares that anyone recommends in this general vicinity? |

| You need to give a.much more specific location. Of you are in Clarksburg it makes no sense to travel to Springfield for daycare. |

| Yes, that's how much daycare costs. Around here, people get on waitlists as soon as the test is positive. Go visit a few convenient places, get on the wait list and hope for the best. It's likely you'll need a nanny share for at least a few months. |

| If N Arlington, look at Lewinsville Montessori on Great Falls St in McLean. Age range is 3 mos thru 5 years. Not much Montessori until age 2. Nice fenced play areas. Nice setup for little kids. Open 12 months so good for working parents. Closed for 2 weeks around Xmas/NewYears. |

Opinions vary about in-home daycares. Some colleagues like them and some do not.
In the end, we preferred a well-run preschool / daycare. Those are more frequently and more carefully inspected by VA. There were more educational toys (fine motor, gross motor, letters and numbers, etc.) there than at the other places we looked. Also, the one we chose had large windows from the interior hallway, so we could carefully examine how they cared for the children before we signed up and also at drop-off/pickup times after DC was going there. |

Do you go in office for work a few days per week? If so, look at places near your office. The daycares in downtown locations have more availability than spots close to residential areas.
I'm now in the office 5 days/week due to childcare next to my office. My boss really likes it because I'm in the office all the time, which makes my boss's stats look good. More face time trickles down with lots of benefits - better projects, better bonus, more interacting with executive management, etc. |
