Arlington Tryouts 2014 B

Any idea when we'll hear back?
Does Arlington notify when the teams are full?

We were told the earliest we would hear back is tomorrow. Some posters on another thread said they received an email saying they will know either way tomorrow, but they are waiting on decisions for slightly older girls (who had earlier tryout dates).

I doubt they notify when teams are full. Given past history, “after the 13th” probably means an email at 11:59Pm on the 14th saying decisions are being postponed to the 18th, before getting the decision on the 20th.

Can you tell if this is a particularly strong year? Not sure about the second day, but at least on the first day it appeared that the fields were separated by skill level though none of the groups looked weak.

I think 2014 is like most other years for Arlington. Typically 5-10 at the very top end. Then like most years there is another 10-15 to players that you could argue could be on the top team or could be on the 2nd team. Then the next two teams are a combination of athletic kids working on there skills kids improving and moving up and kids that were probably put on too high a team moving down or not improving. The final two teams are mostly newer kids to the program or newer to soccer but athletic. If you are trying out from a non travel team don’t get discouraged if you see a lot of players better than your kid. Many of those players are either only trying out for the top team/teams or will only accept an offer if the team they get selected for is higher then the current team they are on. There are usually open spots available on every team.

Did a lot of boys from McLean try out for Arlington for this age group? Someone said kids were moving over, but not sure if that’s only older boys. Not sure how the top teams stack up against each other but McLean’s second team is stronger than Arlington’s at this age. So it could be tough if a lot of McLean boys are trying to move over.

What's your evidence of that?

The GotSoccer rankings (from tournament play) this year has Arlington's second team 8th of all 2014 teams in Virginia while McLean's second team is much further back at 14th.

Arlington's second team also tied McLean's top team in the McLean tournament a couple months ago playing up a bracket (https://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/event.aspx?EventID=91242&GroupID=1259128).

Yes, we were there along with a few other McLean families. Arlington has been supportive, and they were clear that they understand what is happening at MYS this year and are accommodating the increase in player tryouts. We’ll see how many kids get picked up.

Any offers out yet for non pre-academy teams?

Someone in another thread says first and second offers for the top teams have gone out.

What are some good ways to continue playing and improving if you don't get a travel offer?
I'd think just continuing rec wouldn't help that much.

Tryout for ADP or check out PAC in Falls Church.

Not all. They are still doing extra practice sessions (invite only however) to evaluate outside players.

For the other question, maybe you could also check out one of their practices.
