The protests against the war in Gaza, and specifically against Israel's killing of 30K+ Palestinians have provoked endless handwringing about student safety, feelings, etc This seems ironic given that the folks actually in peril are either in Gaza or Israel or both, but most certainly not on the privileged and well-heeled campuses of Columbia, or any other US university. It seems absurd, and like an attempt to gaslight/legitimize/distract from what is happening in real life in the Middle East.
Is this just another example of rich, fragile Americans trying to center themselves in the narrative as victims? Because they are being asked to face some inconvenient truths? |
| No one is being forced to face anything. One can ignore any of what you call asking. |
Sure, that works for sociopaths. What about the rest of us, though? |
| No, that’s not what the protesters are doing. They are bringing to light terrible atrocities committed by an oppressive regime. There’s no fragility, sure wars are fought on the ground, but they are also fought ideologically, there are fought politically and economically. Being on the ground is one way and of course the most important but that doesn’t mean the ones supporting them don’t count. |
Isn't sociopathic--no one can demand my attention and lecture at me, well they can try, but it is my choice to take it or walk away |
They are not bringing anything to light. They are expressing an opinion, just very loudly. They want to annoy people enough that they will capitulate to stop the annoyance. |
I guess you are talking about the Jewish students saying they are “uncomfortable” seeing people protest Israeli killing of 38,000 people and calling for a ceasefire? |
Well you put Jews in their place didn't you! Great job! /s |
