Are most posters this Forum actual adults? And a follow up question...

New-ish to DCUM... Are most of the people participating in the College and University discussion actual parents? Or at the very least, adults?
Also, why are there some strong feelings against certain universities? Almost like these universities ran over their dogs or something.

I'm not meaning to be inflammatory. Just really curious... and the history behind these feelings.

This entire site is 35% trolls, 35% agenda based, 15% people that don’t actually know anything about the topic just have opinions on it, 10% opinions based on experience, and 5% facts.

Some people are just having fun with school rivalries, which are mostly about sports teams, but they make it about the school. They usually don't actually mean what they are saying, its just ribbing the other team.

Some people don't realize that and get defensive and mean in response.

Kids/young adults won't be on this site. They have other places.

Of course many posters will claim to be 18 year olds who got into UVA but were blinded on campus visit by Lilly Pulitzer pink.

I found this forum to be super helpful when my oldest was applying to colleges. He just finished his first year. There are some trolls, but I think the majority of the posters provide honest feedback and insight.

I’m a parent. Current senior and current junior.
Site was super helpful for planning during senior year.

Of course most of us are adults. If we were teenagers we’d be like, Bro…
Reddit is for teens.
DCUM is mostly educated parents in DMV and other metro areas.

This is the safe space where the friendless and ashamed hang out.

It used to be mostly adults and it had more substance. That has changed in the past year and I think it’s safe to never assume you’re conversing with an adult here anymore. If someone sounds immature or mean, they are likely 17 or 18.

There are also definitely trolls who like to start fights about schools and they’ll even play both sides. Report them. They’re easily identifiable after a short time on the site. There are also your standard internet trolls who just get kicks from being an SOB online.

I'm a secret teen who browses on here. Is that a crime?

I think are are at least two teenagers on this thread alone.

There some moms who get strong feelings against certain universities when her kid gets rejected.

+1. If it sounds like a teen, it is an adult who knows they are wrong/factless, and revert to either trying to say they are joking, or claiming to be a kid, OP. They usually claim to know someone "close to them" who "turned down" (one of a few favorite schools). It ruins the college discussion boards, unfortunately.

Then there's the crazy person or bot who flips put and accuses people of being obsessed with a certain university because "their kid got rejected."

or these universities rejected their kids.

Can't be explained otherwise.
