For anyone thinking of getting into running or moving up to the 10K distance, I wanted to pass along info about two programs that are starting in September that are great for moms (and dads!) of young kids. I coach the programs along with a fellow mom (we are both certified running coaches) and both programs have always attracted a strong showing of parents looking to get back in shape and do something for themselves, which has led to a really nice camaraderie among the training groups. Feel free to send any questions to me at lisa_reichmann@yahoo.com.
City of Rockville Run Farther and Faster--Strollers Welcome This 7-week program will take place every Friday morning, beginning September 24, from 10-11 in King Farm Park, and is geared toward beginner runners who would like to transition from brisk walking to running. The goal is for all participants to be able to run for 30 minutes by the end of the program. We will provide participants with a schedule, along with coaching advice, in a relaxed group setting. To register, go to www.rockvillemd.gov, or call Parks and Rec at 301-314-8620 to register over the phone. JCC Running Club Program This 8-week program is a training program for the Veteran's Day 10k in November, and will take place on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings beginning September 22 at 6:30 p.m. with an orientation on September 14. The program is geared toward those who are able to run at least two miles, and includes registration for two races, twice-weekly coached group sessions, including strength training, along with a speaker series on nutrition, injury prevention, and race day preparation. To register and for further information, go to http://www.jccgw.org/articlenav.php?id=482 or contact the JCC at 301-348-3891. |
