family-friendly neighborhoods in Reston...good schools? need info

considering moving back to Va. but have been out of the loop for 8 years and so not quite sure of what neighborhoods (kids, pools, etc.) to look for--looking for good schools for my 4th grader and soon to be K child...good (doesnt have to be the best...stresses me out to even imagaine that much info)....

Our friends have been happy with Terraset. There is one elementary school in Reston that does not have full day Kindergarten so I would look into that if it matters to you. That's all the info I have. GL!

Fairfax County has a system where you can check out 911 calls

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/crime/

click on crime mapping, then type in an address. It will show you the 911 calls near an address.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for the town limits of Vienna, Herndon, and Fairfax City.

As for schools, greatschools.net will reveal some details about the school.

The Reston Association will have a list of amenities available and a map, I'd imagine.

That would be the one in MY neighborhood, Armstrong. We're going to have to move to avoid extra daycare expenses for our child that I hadn't budgeted for when she entered K (and hopefully we add a #2, but who knows if THAT will happen).
