| What is the MAP test really used for? I have a 3rd grader and 8th grader and the one in 8th did MAP M today. Honestly there are so many standardized tests (at least, it seems like it) that I am not clear on what this test is for. Does it matter for the student at all or is this school-wide or state wide data? Thanks. |
| Op here - and I should have noted, my child is not applying for a magnet HS program, so I’m just wondering what the results are really for. Thanks. |

Makes no difference for 8th grader.
For 3rd grader, it is an input in decision of whether to offer a compacted math slot. |

This was published by Bannockburn ES staff. You can see what they say about MAP-M and other assessments.

| ^^ That must be a really old document. MCPS hasn’t administered the CogAT in years. |
It's still a nicely put together synopsis. The date (in URL) says January 2020. |

The county gives the MAP-M and MAP-R 2-3 times yearly to gauge student progress. This is a useful test but sure they could easily just give it twice a year in my opinion.
The state requires the MCAP is given once a year. This is a bad test and the state is terrible about providing results. It's too bad they won't simply accept a proven national test like MAP and insist on giving their own made up test. |
It's a great synopsis that refers to many tests that they no longer use. |
