Caribbean trip in August?

Anonymous
Hi—I know August is not the typical time for the Caribbean, but I’m celebrating an anniversary with my spouse and the grandparents are taking the kids and we want to go somewhere where we can swim and engage in some non-family activities (if that’s a thing lol!) we are flying from Charlotte. Anyone have any recommended spots, or particularly stunning hotels? Our goals are somewhere beautiful, good food, somewhere we can get off the resort, some things to do other than hang on the beach (but also hanging on the beach).

Give me your recs!! Thanks!!!

Cabo’s not a bad idea, but we didn’t find a lot to do off the resort (except whale watching but not in August).

If you are worried about hurricanes then maybe Curacao— we liked a lot.

If you are less concerned about hurricanes then San Juan PR.

I'd go to Bermuda - technically it's not the Caribbean but summer is the season to go there. It's a two hour flight from Charlotte (direct).

I'd go to Cambridge Beaches and hit up the nearby Dockyards for restaurants and kid activities. You can also take the public ferry from Dockyards to the capital of Hamilton (lots to do).

On the other side of the island near the airport is the Loren hotel which is also really nice. People also love the Rosewood for families, but it's not my favorite.

Sorry, I just realized you said no kids! Just to go Cambridge Beaches and ask for one of the private cottages with its own plunge pool.

Grand Cayman. Not full of all-inclusive resorts. Nice hotels and rental options and easy to get around the whole island if you rent a car.

Harbour Island, Bahamas. There's a direct flight to North Eleuthera from Charlotte, then ferry over to Harbour Island.

If you don't want to have any concerns over hurricanes, go south of the hurricane belt to Aruba, Bonaire, or Curacao. Otherwise, be sure to get travel insurance well in advance of your trip.

If you don't mind the heat, I'd say Sandals in Jamaica. It's a short flight to Montego Bay from Charlotte.

Anguilla - fly to St Maarten and quick ferry over. Would not go after the second full week as things shut down for the season.

St Barths - same as above

Harbour Island

Aruba
