| DD is having trouble finding a job. She is 19 and home after her first-year of college. If you know of a place that is hiring, please post here. We are in NW DC but DD can commute if needed. |
I knew a kid that worked at Marshalls in FH last Summer after senior year of HS. I know various kids that worked at the restaurants on CT Avenue (Blue 44, The Avenue) as well as down at Comet and Bucks near Politics & Prose. Too late for this year, but encourage your kid to register for the MYSEP program next year (February deadline)...guarantees your kid a Summer job in DC and there are actually jobs that you could call internships through the program. |
| Are they sporty? Our local rec leagues are in immediate, constant need for referees. At least one was providing personal training if need be. |
| Camp counselor basically anywhere |
filled in February |
| Same problem here. Only one out of all the college freshman DS knows has an actual summer job or internship lined up. They all started looking around Christmas time. I think they were hoping to get interships in their majors first, and when that didn't pan out, it was too late for a lot of other internships and job applications. |
| Where are you? |
DC Parks & Recs lifeguard. Certification is free and takes 4 days. Job offer upon certification. |
| Internships are typically for older students. My 19 yr old will be working as a camp counselor at the s as me camp he worked at last summer. They hire in January/February. Stick to seasonal jobs. Lifeguards are always in short supply. |
| Maybe you should post more locally - like on Next Door. |

DPR is hiring http://earnwithdpr.com/
most grocery stores, target, restaurants, etc. are hiring--if she walks around she'll find stuff. Or nursing homes always need people for food service, cleaning, laundry--try Ingleside Rock Creek or the Sunrise on CT Ave or Chevy Chase House. If she can take the servsafe class in advance that might be useful. Can also go on Rover or care.com for petsitting and childcare. Just note that taxes will be more complicated with self employment income (the filing threshold is $400). |
| Target. My DC started there after HS. The always need people. |
| Boating in DC is hiring. |
| see about being a pharmacy tech. My sister did this in high school. Pharmacies are desperate for staff right now. Less hot than outdoor jobs or food service. |
| have her do some volunteering for a cause related to her major to help build up her resume and get a PT job at a retail store or something. Internships after freshman year are not common. Oh she can line up work as a babysitter, pet sitter etc. |
