Advice on travel to Rehoboth please

Anonymous
Hi,

We are headed to Rehoboth for the first time this weekend. We are likely leaving late Friday night (after a dinner event) around 11 pm or so, but are also considering just cancelling that in order to leave Friday morning. How early on Friday do you have to leave in order to minimize traffic? I assume we'll have no problems if we leave at 11pm Friday, but experiences on that approach would be much appreciated, too.

Thanks!

You shouldn't have traffic problems if you leave on Friday (other than rush hour). Saturday and Sunday are the bad traffic days.

I think if you leave by 1:00 pm on Friday, you will be fine. I definitely wouldn't leave anytime after 3:00 pm, even 2:30 pm might have backups if the weather is nice.

No problems at all if you leave at 11:00 pm. I would say leaving at 8:30 pm or even 8:00 pm would be fine. Just listen to the traffic before you go to make sure no delays, 103.5 has traffic on the eights.

I agree with the PPs...leaving by 11am or even 1pm should be fine on a Friday. Its the late afternoon/evening hours that are the worst because of the Bay Bridge. Are you coming back on Sunday? That is likely to be worse than Friday traffic. If you can, I would recommend either waiting until late on Sunday to leave or getting up really early on Monday and driving back then. We usually leave at around 6:30am and are in the city by 9:15am for work. But I know that's not always possible.

From my experience going to Dewey (in my single days) then Bethany (now with kids) leaving before noonish on a Friday is totally fine-- even a holiday weekend. As you creep closer to mid afternooon (think 2 pm and onward) it will be HELL. I've had friends leave after the pm rush (8 pm) and had no traffic. So I guess the advice for a Friday is avoid leaving 2-8 pm and you should be ok.

We're actually heading to Rehoboth on Saturday for a week and leaving around 1pm, just praying the traffic isn't too bad. We don't have much of a choice though b/c we really need to time the drive with the baby's nap and can't get into our rental until at least 2 pm.
