Loudoun Tryouts

Anonymous
Loudoun tryouts are Monday and Tuesday for our son’s age group (2015). Anybody know how competitive it will likely be/how many kids may be there or how well coached their 2015 age group is?

Hoping that he can make one of the top 2 teams especially since they are one of the last large leagues to hold tryouts.

It's going to be packed. Most are slotted for lower teams unless the coach knows your kid.

As most clubs and teams go, coaching is random as far as quality goes. Anyway, come in with low expectations.

Unless you have already been in contact with coaches from the top teams, attended their practices, or have a serious in, it will be very difficult to break onto those teams at Loudoun. They mostly already know who they will be taking and unless your kid is freakishly big and athletic it’s hard to stand out in what will be a lot of kids.

But don’t get discouraged. Your son is young and the most important things now are finding a good coach, getting playing time, developing on his own, and enjoying the game. Things will start to shake out in U13-15 as boys hit puberty. Most of the top team kids at U10 will not still be on the top team at U15 for a variety of reasons.

You will be find at this age. Lots of time for your kid to work in system. Going into 2nd year of 9v9, thats when you should start to worry. Combo of talent lock and politics come into play.

Our son is on one of the (six) current Loudoun 2015 teams. We’ve been told over 140 kids have registered and they expect about 115-120 to actually show up on Monday.

Other posters are correct - the top team is probably already picked. HOWEVER there is a new coach coming in as the current coach is taking on older age groups for Fall, so maybe more of an opening than usual??!! I’ve heard they only roster 10 players too, so there is room to add IF they choose to, which may also shake things up on the top 2 teams. Maybe.

As for coaching - the top 2 teams are well coached and I do not expect that to change with the new coach coming in to take over the top team. After that - you get what you get - same as most clubs.

As a rule remember you generally have to club hop to push thru ceilings. Coaches label kids especially bubble players. Also they do look at level team you reg your kid. It may be disingenuous but to get your kid on top fields ….lie on reg. Loudoun is extremely guilty of this. The coaches will quickly see if they cant hang and move them off. Vice starting at bottom field and getting noticed to get pulled up.

Does anyone have insight on next year's 2015B coach (Adu)?

I would assume somehow related to Freddy?

Yea.
Played at Mason and has coached in/around NoVA for some time now. No other insights beyond that, except he was apparently at VSA before joining LS.

Was somewhere else between VSA and Loudoun. Culpepper, and maybe somewhere else after that.

Loudoun’s top teams for U13+ are filled. B team tryouts are all that’s left.

How do you know? And there is much more than A & B team at Loudoun.

Another question from me/original poster! 😂

Given the weather forecast are tryouts usually rain or shine? Looks like session 1 is on grass and session 2 is on turf.

If its on turf, I'd bet its a go. Most grass fields seem to be closed today, so it would need to get rescheduled to turf (if one is available).

Loudoun is only ever interested in the top two teams. At the older ages only the top. Getting in from outside is very, very difficult. You can see that as good or bad depending on whether you’re at Loudoun or somewhere else but that is the reality. Always has been.
