| DC currently plays in the YULA league in Arlington for MS and really likes it. We live in Fairfax County, and checked with the future HS athletic department - they don’t have a team and have no intention or interest in establishing one. Could DC play with another HS, or is there a league he could join so that he can continue when he’s in HS? |
| That would be a good question to ask the Activities Director at the high school your child will attend. |
| PP forgot to mention my DC’s high school has an ultimate club. |
We already did - he said there is no team and likely wouldn’t be one. I thought I included that in my original post? |
That’s great. Still doesn’t answer the question.🙄 |
| There is league in Fairfax county but only a handful of high schools participate e.g. tj, lake Braddock however there is a team that takes the high school students who's school don't participate. That team if Fairfax fog https://fairfaxultimate.org/t/fairfax-fog/roster . However the season is over this weekend. |
Thank you! DC is in 7th so not looking this year if next but possibly for 9th. |
| Does anyone have any experience with Fairfax Fog? |
| Can he start an after school club? He just needs a teacher to agree to sponsor it. |
And 12 other players, and another team to play against. He needs a league. |
It sounds like there is already a league right? In a whole high school, he may very well be able to find 12 players and a sponsor. It would be a good learning experience for him. |
| Following up on this. I checked out Fairfax Ultimate and there is no team for Marshall. Did see that Madison has one now - wonder if they let kids from other schools play. Tried talking to several coordinators at incoming HS and have hit a wall. There has to be some other way! How is it that Arlington had an organized league and Fairfax is so piecemeal? |
Different school systems often offer different sports, and not all are sanctioned by the states’ sports league like VHSL. MCPS has interscholastic bowling for example. Arlington high schools have rifle teams. |
| We’re in a MoCo but our HS team practices jointly with another HS team, which makes it easier as far as coaches and practice space. It’s a great sport and all those kids who played soccer but who aren’t playing in HS can transition into ultimate pretty easily. There’s a fair amount of unmet need for sports at these huge suburban high schlools. |
| Is this a good sport for a “hook” for admissions to the T20 universities? What scholarships $$ are available? |
