CIO and vomitting?

Anonymous
My 11 month old DS hates going to bed. Both for naps and bedtime. We switched him to only one nap a day and he still resists going to sleep. At night he frequently falls asleep in my arms and then wakes when i transfer to his crib. He gets really worked up and the last two nights he has vomitted. I thought Monday night was a fluke but he did it again last night. Once he is asleep in bed, he is generally a good sleeper. Any suggestions? Could he have reflux or something?
Thanks!

no, i wouldn't say it was reflex. I think he just gets crying so hard that he chokes/gags and then vomits.

And 11 months is pretty young to go to one nap. Perhaps he is over tired?

My son is almost 3 and has done this since he was little. Like the pp said, he gets so worked up by crying that he makes himself throw up. As time has gone on, we know to look for signs that he might throw up - coughing, etc and we try to quickly calm him down or move him to clear ground! But we have had multiple instances of having to change his clothes/pajamas because he threw up after crying. It also never seems to fail that those times he throws up are usually after he has a a great, nutritionally balanced meal!

I have the same problem with my one year old. The few times we tried CIO-she worked herself up so much, she started gagging and vomitted a couple times. It is such a battle to get her to fall asleep and I have tried every method out there with no luck. I have basically resigned myself to the fact that sleep time will be a battle. She will take one 30-45 minute nap (after I spent an hour trying to make her go to sleep) and then she'll sleep about 9 hours at night (whew!). Still not enough by the books I have read, but I can't think of anything else to try.

Some kids (like mine, grrr) don't take to CIO because the crying gives them energy rather than tiring them out. That can lead to vomiting if you let it carry on too long.
