Outcomes: private high school results

In looking at DMV and non-DMV private high school IG feeds, is it just me, or is this year materially better for T25 admissions than past years?

If so, why? Supreme Ct decision? Less TO candidates?

Something else?

People took their eye off the ball - and put it back on.

Seems like the privates had a better year in general. From everywhere. Boston, NYC. This isn't what I expected in a world that was striving for equity. But here we are.

Publics did, too. This seemed to be a much better year for college admissions - based on my own kids’ mcps public, their friends at orher area high schools, friends from camp and down the east coast, and family friends sharing their kids’ high school experiences from CA to NY.

It's because the colleges trust the private schools' grading. When you have only 5 kids out of 80 who have a 3.9+, and 10 who have above a 3.8 you know what you're getting. None of this "everyone gets an A."

I think combination of getting a known quantity and movement back towards testing. Definitely far better at our school than 2022 and 2023 cycles.

And they really need the money. Private school signals full pay.

This is an interesting point. Our private doesn’t have the connections of DC privates, but it’s been a better than average year.

Our public had a significantly better year too.

Chicago private. It’s been pretty great year here too and much better than last 2-3 years.

So who is not doing well this year?

Supreme ct decision changed a lot. Last year was extremely hard for non-URM at privates and top publics.

I feel like DCPS results are down when compared to 22 and 23 (for both white and black kids).
The instagrams at large for top schools seem to be less black and more Asian.

And you know this how?

There are DCUMers scapegoating URMs after numerous rejections - AFTER the Supreme Court ruling.

This was definitely not the case for our school - this year was much, much worse.
