teachers and absences

WILL WJLA be able to have access to teachers attendance?

I don't have any issue with my kids teachers being out, but I heard some are out a lot and want to know if WJLA will be able to interview them to see what's going on?

They should start a teacher truancy along with the students. Maybe we can separate the teachers and kids who don't want to go to school out and they can all figure out a different school day schedule together.

And people wonder why teachers are leaving in droves... shocking.

Why is a teacher's attendance any of your business OP? Do you think leave of everyone in every profession should be public knowledge?

Are you daft? Of course WJLA won't have access to teacher's- or any professional's- work attendance.

LOL

I swear. Some of you must stay up at night making creating lists of things to complain about, trying to stir the pot.

I used to go to work sick because of stuff like this. I also put off appointments. No longer. I try to get the earliest of latest appointment available but I am no longer putting my job first when it impacts my health or my child's. As a single mom, there are times where it is unavoidable to take off.

You should definitely contact the media about how you heard a rumor. Maybe also contact US Department of Education and the President. I head that the UN may also be willing to investigate this. Keep up the good work!

Not in Fairfax County but in my district, we only get compensated for 1/4 of our unused sick days when we retire. When I found this out, I started using more sick days since I’ll lose them if I don’t.

Fairfax County doesn't even do that. If you don't use your sick leave, you lose it entirely. When my mom retired two years ago, she over 1000 hours of leave gone. She wasn't even able to donate them. My sister is a teacher in the county too and my mom encourages her to take all of the leave since she won't get anything for it.

Because it's none of our business?

When my child's teachers are out often, I am not concerned about the fact there is a sub but am instead concerned that the teacher is okay. Why? Because I'm a human being who has empathy for the suffering of others.

While I am concerned for the teacher's physical and emotional health, I'd still never pry into WHY they are out. That's their business.
-- Maybe they or their family member has the flu.
-- Maybe they or a family member has cancer.
-- Maybe they or a family member has a doctor's appointment.
-- Maybe they're having surgery.
-- Maybe they have been summoned for jury duty.
-- Maybe they're at a meeting at Gatehouse.
-- Maybe they were in an accident.
-- Maybe they needed a mental health day due to dealing with unreasonable parents.

There's a lot of Maybes, but only one Certain, which is that it is none of our business.

Use them don't lose them. And if you feel bad think about the parents who think teachers are indentured servants
