It’s baffling to me why people choose to have three or more kids while they don’t have childcare options and can’t afford a babysitter in regular basis.
They end up tagging those 3-4 kids everywhere they go. One kid has a music instrument class? All five of them go and then wait for that one. Adult gathering for like a poker night or a sports event? Bring along the kids as inconvenient for everyone involved as it may be. Wedding? RSVP for six of us. We can’t leave kids home alone. It’s a hug inconvenience it just for them, but for others, as well. What did you think it was going to be like? |
you're conflating money and love. I'm sad for you. |
They assume that all spaces are child friendly because the kind of people who want lots of kids genuinely like having kids everywhere. The people who believe some spaces/events should be childfree and regularly get babysitters are usually not having tons of kids. |
It seems the issue is bringing kids along when it isn't appropriate. |
Why invite people to events if you know they’re going to bring their kids? |
I think you're not understanding that people had kids so that they can spend time together. They don't WANT a babysitter.
I have two kids and they've gone everywhere with us. All the weddings we were invited to were kid-friendly. My oldest, when he was 2 years old, danced until late on the dance floor full of kids and grandparents, and then slept on two chairs pulled together. Each one has sat through, and learned from, the other's lessons, and performances. We are a closely bonded family. The oldest is in college now. I am glad that when we're gone, they'll have a great relationship and lots of happy family memories. |
Honestly who cares, unless invite explicitly state no kids or an inappropriate adult setting - shrug, they probably think the more the merrier, no biggie |
This, precisely. (Mom of 5 who can afford babysitters but prefers to bring my crew with me for most things. But we mostly hang out with similar families and this is the way we all roll.) |
They like it that way. They don't want to leave the kids behind. They will be really offended if you don't invite the kids to the wedding. A sitter never entered their minds. |
Why have kids if you can't wait to get away from them? |
We've been invited to 2 child free weddings. Guess what? We're not going. I'm not flying my kids someone to sit in a hotel room with a babysitter. |
How can you be bothered by people having kids and raising them on their own? Do people crap on you for having kids and and paying others to raise them for you? |
Imagine what it's like to be OP and not understand why people have kids... Nope, sorry, can't imagine it. It's so far out there. |
I have one kid and never paid for babysitter. They went with me. Why should I pay a stranger to care for my kid? |
Makes you wonder why OP even had kids, if he or she can't bear to spend time with them. |
