UC schools over VA schools?

Would you pick Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD over UVA, W&M and VT?

If you are in-state in California and your kid can get in, I would say California.

I would pick:

Cal
UVA
UCLA

Then the others depending on major.

I would pick Cal over most other schools, public or private. It’s an exceptional experience.

Sorry, I should have said from VA. We are in state VA, not California.

+1 unless student is focused on government or politics. Then UVA. Or film obviously, then UCLA

W&M would be my last choice

As a third gen UCLA grad, married to a Cal grad. With a Brother and Sister-in-Law both Davis and UCSB grads and their kids currently at UCLA and UCSC, and a kid at UVA I have a pretty good perspective. If in-state in VA then it's a no-brainer for UVA unless you have money to throw away.

Depends almost entirely on where kid wants to live post graduation.

So much depends on what they want to study and the money you have for tuition and if they are comfortable in CA. Different culture

Wouldn’t the college experience be much better in CA?

Maybe I’m just not a fan of Charlottesville.

How rich are you? If the difference in tuition does not effect your budget, then go to Cal or UCLA

Another UCLA grad here and I totally agree. I loved my experience and received a great education, but it's not worth the extra $$$ unless you're loaded. I hold the same opinion for full-pay at privates.

Good one OP, it's obvious this post is to stir the pot. It's about time to exit this place forever, it has become cheap entertainment.

If you are in state VA, then I would almost never pick the cal, ucla or ucsd over those 3 va schools.
Exception would be if $ is no object, and strong desire to live in ca.
Major exceptions would be film at ucla, cs at cal.
