Every thread in this forum devolves into a massive douche-off. |
Please do go on about the amazing experience. Make sure to avoid making it sound like summer camp in the process. |

To answer the original question: because it is a powerhouse for producing Rhodes Scholars. From wiki: Rhodes Scholarships are international postgraduate awards given to students to study at the University of Oxford. Since the scholarship program began in 1904, UVA has had fifty-five Rhodes Scholars.[105] This is the most of any university in the American South, eighth-most overall, and third-most outside the Ivy League (behind Stanford University and the United States Military Academy). |
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. |
UVA is rated appropriately. It’s not too 25, but still very good. |

It’s ranked pretty low in the world university rankings. |
So don't send your child there, they won't be missed. |
You’re “sending” your child somewhere? |

They’re much more important than the Ivies. They educate a much larger number of students and are major centers of R&D. Too much focus on the Ivies for their contribution to the Commonweal. |
