Ah yes, name calling, the last refuge of people on DCUM who can't argue based on issues and facts. Transparency at FCPS? That's rich. You did hear that they somehow "forgot" to submit several years of federally required seclusion/restraint data to the Office of Civil Rights, right? Or are you ok with this apparent lack of transparency? https://wamu.org/story/19/03/13/children-are-routinely-isolated-in-some-fairfax-county-schools-the-district-didnt-report-it/ How about this name calling: You sound like an FCPS apologist. |

Er, you acknowledged yourself that your posts are emotional. Since you are not in the Franconia ES or West Springfield ES catchment areas and don't have a special needs child, yes, you just come across as hysterical. |

FCPS has screwed the middle class
If you get into AAP it's fine If you are lower class in Title 1 you are actually getting a decent education The people that are getting screwed are the folks who miss the cut for AAP and are forced to go at a snails pace for all the Title 1 kids to get it |

I’ve read through this thread and I don’t think pp sounds hysterical at all. |

Bingo! And remember, the middle kids are meant to lift up everyone else. |

I've got one in gen ed and one in AAP. My gen ed kind isn't screwed. |

My 2E dyslexic kid was screwed. She was floundering but NOT BADLY ENOUGH. . . YET to get help, so we took her out. |

How is the curriculum different? Do they get different resources? |
| I heard about kids not doing poorly enough to get help in our 60% impoverished ES. There just isn't enough help to go around even with Title 1 funding. |

Yep. If your kid is on either extreme then rest assured FCPS takes good care of you. For the rest of us with average/normal kids, we are overlooked bc so many of the resources go to coddling the really smart kids or the struggling ones. |

I haven't taught in years. However, when I last taught, the school used the "federal formula" to determine who was eligible. They may call it something different now, but I assume there is still some kind of formula required to determine help. Otherwise, anyone could demand an IEP or 504. I do remember one child who desperately needed help but did not fall under the "federal formula." This was first grade, and she was not yet far enough behind, as she had a relatively low IQ (not to fall into Special Ed. but did not yet fill the requirement for LD--i.e. her performance was not that much lower than what was expected for a child with her IQ.) It was very frustrating to me, as the child clearly needed additional help. FWIW, this was not in FCPS. I'm sure that, as she grew older, that she fell into IEP category. Since she was also ED, the LD teacher took her every day because she knew I could get nothing done with the other kids while this child was in the room. There was not a lot of help for ED in those days. |

You poor baby. I bet you've single-handedly kept many an anti-AAP thread alive for years. Most are happy that FCPS tries to meet the needs of really smart or struggling kids (to you, coddling), while still providing other kids with an excellent education (to you, overlooking). And we notice the ugly centering when you label your kids "normal" and imply that kids who don't fit the same profile as yours are not normal or deserving of equal attention. |

That’s true. I am also very wealthy and my child will inherit that wealth and pull further and further away from the herd. It’s incredibly comforting. |

Different resources? I don't know. They get different assignments, but that seems to be true for each of the different teachers. Same curriculum. |

Brown immigrant here again. This would actually be funny if it weren't true. To make it more entertaining for me, I will make sure your white child marries a brown immigrant so your wealth is properly and equitably redistributed. A win-win situation for the rest of us. |
