Hoarding involves a lot of unacknowledged cognitive dissonance and magical thinking that isn't always obviously crazy. But it is.

OP, your husband needs to think about what will happen to these books when you and he are gone. He is "supposed" to add to the collection, making the oppression greater.

Is he really going to task his child with this? Is that his legacy, his gift to his oldest son -- to put him in the same spot that his own parents placed him in?
