Will FCPS ever Reopem?

Our FCPS elementary has a 4:05 dismissal, and plenty of kids have a 50 minute bus ride (it’s a center + some kids have long bus routes). 6th graders have the final lunch, starting at 1:35pm. You can’t have some kids get (free or reduced prices) lunch and not others. Pretty sure they couldn’t dismiss until all lunch periods are over = only a 2 hour early release.

That would put some kids on a bus until 3pm. If the forecast is shifting earlier, it doesn’t look good for school tomorrow.

Our school is .5 miles down a neighborhood road, so no I’m not too worried. And I don’t work, but my husband does and it’s not like they are going to give him an early dismissal! So your notion of “no one” driving on the road is laughable.

It makes absolutely no sense to open on time with the preplanned idea to close early. What happens if the wintry mix decides to fall sooner?

FCPS is too large, with too many kids to try to navigate that logistical nightmare.

Kiddo above, 1. Why are you on a PARENT website? Where’s the parental guidance in your home? There are too many sketchy forums on here a kid could wander into.

2. Schools do not operate so that you can see friends. That would be easier to do with the day off. If you live too far, Skype or FaceTime each other. No one’s safety should be at risk because you want to play with your buddies.

Not sure what you are carrying on about. Just pointing out your absurd statement that literally everyone should stay home when it sleets a little. “No one should be driving on that.” Totally absurd and unrealistic and not happening.

Winter Weather Advisory is not until 3 at the earliest. Literally every kid in FCPS is home by then with a 2 hour release if they cancel afternoon activities.

We had two snow days last week we just did not need. I commented Thursday, and the roads were FINE. Both closings caught me by surprise, and I am well versed is FCPS closure BS.

I would remind everyone we did this 2 years ago. Had a bunch of snow days in the cleanser, and then closed for cold and forecasts of sleet that never materialized. And ended up with the 4 feet of snow and coming within a hour or two of having to extend the school year. It’s only early January. We have at least 10 weeks of possible snow days to go. It would be nice to have some if we actually needed them.
