Washington and Lee v Kenyon v Hamilton

Too much drinking, too much racism, too little critical thinking. Just all around gross.

For kids who need college paid for, it might make sense, but it's an uphill slog for any thinking kid.

Someone should let the brilliant kids there know that you don’t approve. Sorry you weren’t capable of taking advantage. Sounds like a you problem. My 2014 grad is in a fully-funded PhD program and her entire friend group is bright and absurdly accomplished.

OP, dopes like this won’t help you. Visit the three schools and see what you think. The student profiles are very similar and there are very few kids at any school in this category who aren’t smart and capable and ambitious. See where they send graduates. Look at outcomes.

This made me roll my eyes just as hard, particularly the bolded. Yes, look at outcomes. How many end up at T-14 law schools versus terrible ones? How many end up at M7 MBA programs versus terrible ones? From my graduating class, only a handful got jobs at MBB consulting firms or bulge-bracket investment banks. I don't think there was a single person in my year who became a SWE at a FAANG+ company.

Aims of the General's Redoubt include:

Restore public prayer at ceremonial functions and underscore that prayer for participants is optional.

Western Civilization is at the core of the Washington and Lee student journey, particularly as relates to the humanities

I ended up on the General's Redoubt list somehow (definitely didn't subscribe) as did a bunch of my friends.

I started getting e-mails from this group and couldn't figure out why.

Someone you know gave them your email.

This happened to me and I found out that a classmate put my email in their system.

They do not have a good relationship with the school.

Or they used insider access to data mine (steal) thousands of names. But please tell us more about the honor system.

The person who used the data had legal access to it. It's one professor (perhaps two) and his name is on the Redoubter's website. He's part of the minority that voted to keep the name the same. Alums from the C school will not be surprised at all, and no laws were broken. It was unprofessional but a single actor.

And just like W&L is responsible for undergraduate drinking and reckless behavior, they are also the only school in America to have an unprofessional, political-activist professor that stepped out of line once to propagate his personal political views.

The Generals Redoubt are a bunch of self-important dinosaurs who yearn for a bygone day when their behavior was tolerated. Most adults don’t obsess over the goings on of a college they attended long ago and likely wouldn’t get admitted to since the standards went up.

Women, minorities and LGBT students at their beloved all-white, male college. People who don’t recognize the genius of Robert E Lee. O the humanity.

Read the Blaine A. Brownell book. If Robert E Lee gets credit for saving the school in 1865 so should the women who saved it in 1985 to the present. And they don’t have the baggage Lee does.

In the early 1980s the school was out of gas and wasn’t attracting the best and the brightest. They were forced into coeducation and some of the old timers are still mad about it. It’s nice to live in a world where your diploma appreciates and you still get to complain about the very people who made that happen.

And they had a sour-grapes member who published a letter on the site complaining that W&L rejected his EA son.

Admissions doesn’t value them. Unfortunately, they are old, rich, have a lot of free time, and troll students instead of playing golf.

These people do not run the school. They are wanna bees freaking out that their influence is dwindling.

Dwindling where? There is nothing at all desirable about the school. Don’t rock the boat.

It's a top frigg'n 10 LAC. It has one of the best pipelines of any school in America to high-paying jobs in law and politics. It's one of the few highly selective LACs that doesn't lean hard left politically. Those may not be desirable traits to you, but that doesn't mean they aren't to someone else.

It’s amazing that a full scholarship student who paid nothing for a great education feels a need to bitterly complain. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.

This. But you have to be the right type of person to benefit from this school.

It’s also got a top-flight liberal arts program for students with any number of academic interests and graduates do exceptionally well in graduate school. But that’s only if you are going to college for an education.

NP- I’m not sure it hasn’t worked out for him/her. They mentioned being on campus in 2018. They haven’t had time to benefit yet.

It’s a great school for students who do not have the full support of their families to attend college and for those who do. It’s a microcosm like all college campuses.

With that attitude they are already reaping the rewards.
