Ellington. $250 m for 600 students. Murch. $70 m for 700 students.

If the DC taxpayer's kid couldn't carry a tune and had no interest in studying vocal performance 2+ hours a day ... then yes.

Otherwise no.

Given that everything at Ellington is shrouded in secrecy there's no say you can say that with any certainty.

Admission to Ellington is not shrouded in any more or any less secrecy than Banneker and Walls.

IMO they're all a little sketchy. I'd much prefer it be based in objective data but of course that's just not possible for a visual and performing arts school.

Banneker and Walls are run by principals who are accountable to elected officials. Who is the Ellington principal accountable to?

This.

So apparently DGS is exploring having the Hyde kids in trailers on the Ellington lawn during their upcoming renovation.

Anyone know more or have thoughts on how that would all work especially if the DE construction is as delayed as folks here believe?

Basically to Peggy Cooper Cafritz, the school's longtime advocate. The Ellington board is basically self-perpetuating. A few board members are designated, but none are designated by the DC government, which funds the school.

Are you sure it's the Ellington lawn and not the Ellington field? On the H-A website I saw the field mentioned. The field is a few blocks away.

And it's not hard to believe that the board's first loyalty may not be to DC taxpayers, and that regional interests may be more important.

Wow. 75% more students from outside the District than from Ward 3. Interesting indeed.

This was in 2011.

Looks like Ward 3 needs to step up their game. Apparently not much talent up there.

That is really callous and also ridiculous. Some with talent probably want rigorous courses at the same time.

No more ridiculous than putting forward 4 year old stats.

Then put up recent ones, are they any different?

If only I could.

That isn't publicly available data - perhaps it should be. The person who shared it earlier in the week said they got it via a private communication from some elected official.

So why does a public school not have any publicly available data? So are at least half the students at grade level in English and math in high school? Even if they have talent, it'll be helpful if they can read and write and do math.

Of course they have performance data like all other public schools (go to learndc.org and see for yourself).

What isn't public is how many current students are not DC residents.
