Yes, it is useful to know when it happens. Most importantly, it is important to know if it recurs frequently. If it happens once a week, it is a problem, but not the same scale of a problem if it happens every other time you load a page. |
This has been happening to me repeatedly from my iPhone for the past week or so |
PP again - Jeff, it's been happening to me on off topic over and over and over again - basically 3-4 times per "session" of dcum time... Basically every time I click back to the off topic main page. |
Do you know which ad it is or which app you are redirected to? |
I'm getting lyft and fanduel as the apps. One other one as well but I forget which one... I'll try to take note. It's happened to me 2 times this morning over the course of 30 minutes. |
Just to confirm, the redirects happened when you were using an iPhone, correct? Was it the same IP address you are using now? I'm trying to find any useful information in the logs. |
iPhone. This IP address. |
NP here. This has been happening lately to me as well on my iPhone. I thought I was inadvertently clicking on ads but I haven't had this problem in the past and I feel like I'm just clicking on threads. |
Based on what I find via Google searches, these redirects are happening all over the Internet and Lyft is a common culprit (however, given the ugly tactics being used in the Uber/Lyft competition, I wouldn't put it past Uber to be behind this).
One suggestion is to go to "Settings" -> "Safari" -> "Clear History and Website Data" and clear everything. The way that ads work, once you get one ad you will probably keep getting them. I don't seem to get any and I have my browser emulating an iPhone almost all the time now. I'll keep looking for a better solution, but this is a really hard problem to solve (as the other websites battling the issue are also finding out). |
Does it to my windows phone also, but only if I click on a redfin link. |
Just got the Fanduel redirect from an off topic thread on iPhone / Safari.
Will clear the history per your suggestion. Any thought on making that a sticky at the top of this forum? Something like 'how to clear your settings if you start getting App Store redirects'. I'm sure I'll forget by the next time I have this issue. |
Let me know if that works first. If so, yes, I'll make it a sticky. |
I delayed taking this step because I only got the one redirect yesterday, but then got another this AM (to the DraftKings app from the Recent Topics page.). Have cleared history & cookies, but since it was an infrequent problem already I don't know if I'll be able to say if that was the fix. |
Just happens agaim |
