And where do you get this data?
My DS, who turned down AAP to stick with an immersion program, was placed in honors Algebra as an 7th grader, (so he did his pre-algebra earlier and in a different language) got As and is getting As in Honor Geometry. There is actually a slight downside, for IB students, since you can't take the IB HL exams as a junior. (and don't start slamming IB, please note we are an immersion family, and need IB to go to college overseas)

Sorry can't do. Thanks for adding another reason in my book to get rid of IB at most schools. Why do parents think this is some sort of private school to get their child into an overseas college! Have four IB schools -North, South, East, and West and be done with the program besides these.

Disagree! IB is a great option, and it is NOT all about the IB Diploma. Students can take IB courses to get the Career Certificate (for example) or take individual IB courses. IB is an excellent preparation for humanities and liberal arts majors.

Currently have a child taking Alg Honors as a 7th grader a LB. He didn't have a perfect advance SOL score (but did score 99% on IAAT). We (and he) felt he was ready for it. LB math teacher is fantastic!

IB are just international standards. Sorry, don't get your reference to private school. Just like AP exams kinda set the standards for "college" level courses taught at high school and have curriculum set nationally.

I am new to this. I wanted my son to be in advanced math to take Algebra next year which is 8th. Are we bad moms by pushing them? His last school he did very well but not perfect. He had a 3.5 in math. I am just scared about setting him up for failure. It is advanced 7th math.

Roughly 75% of fcps students take Algebra or Alg Hon. by 8th grade. If he is in math 7 honors in 7th grade, he is ready to take Alg. or Alg Hon next year.

Honestly, if your kid didn't make it even by just 1 point...then why push the issue? I was just told by DC's math 7 honors teacher that it's best for kids to start 7th grade with pre-alg instead of jumping right into Alg1 unless they are truly advanced. In this case, if she was advanced the scores would have proved it. Don't rush your kid. This isn't a race. In the end it really doesn't matter what math they start off with as long as they get a solid foundation in Alg 1.

Best of luck.

Being in Math 7 or Math 7 honors is not setting him up for failure. It is a good start for the math track.

We haven’t gotten IAAT results yet, so I haven’t heard anything on this.
