what are the best elementary schools in Fairfax Co?

I just heard that some of the Louise Archer's AAP students from Freedome Hill will transfter to Haycock starting this Fall. I am not sure how Haycock could handle this even more crowded situation.

No... It is only those Freedom Hill kids within the Option B area that will be boundary changed to Lemon Road.

An AAP Center school tends to bring in more involved parents, so these parents tend to support the PTA more, and you'll see a greater variety of extracurricular activities (chess club, robotics, Odyssey of the Mind, etc.) then you will see at the more middle class public elementary schools. Yes, there will be exceptions at the very affluent elementary schools as the PTAs have extraordinarily high bank account balances to fund these activities anyway.

The top 15 most affluent FCPS elementary schools (based on spring 2011 FCPS indexing) are:

1. Wolftrap
2. Great Falls
3. Colvin Run
4. Sangster
5. Chesterbrook
6. Forestville

This is crazy! But extremely funny. I hope to see more lists soon.

7. Crossfield
8. Flint Hill
9. Churchill Road
10. Sunrise Valley
11. Oak Hill
12. Haycock
13. Wakefield Forest
14. Silverbrook
15. Fox Mill

If affluence = "best elementary school" then this is your list.

The numbers are broken out by middle school in this Patch article.

Hi,

How is Marshall Road Elementary school? It seems it has AAP program.

http://commweb.fcps.edu/schoolprofile/profile.cfm?profile_id=054

How does this AAP program works? If my child qualifies for AAP program can she attend any FCPS schools of her choosing?

Thanks

Realtor here. If you have money, want to go public and are looking for a school that is head and shoulders above the rest in FC, just stick with the three power schools in McLean - Churchill, Springhill and Chesterbrooke. These schools are always in demand!!!! Haycock has been on somewhat of a downswing recently, but hopefully the new construction will reverse the trend.

No. If your child is found Center-eligible, your child either goes to your local (base school) if it has Local Level IV (as is the case with Marshall Road ES), goes to the assigned Center (such as Mosby Woods)

http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/designations.shtml

or opts to defer.

Of course if the local (base) school is also a Center, then your child would stay at the local school and move from the general ed program to the AAP program in that school.

I've not heard these schools described as the "three power schools" or that Haycock is on "somewhat of a downswing."

The fact that you don't even know how to spell Chesterbrook or Spring Hill correctly makes me think you don't know the area too well. Lots of dumb-ass realtors wanting to pass themselves off as savvy.

Fine, don't take pp/realtor's suggestion. It will keep our SH numbers down. But you can't argue with the fact that 50 year old relatively modest homes in our neighborhood are sold as fast as they get on the market.
