Right? When has CTY ever suggested a mixed-skill class? They even segment their own programs into "gifted" and "really really gifted" |

"Social stigma for off-ramps"
Yeah, kids won't see their classmates in different math groups. "in and out of acceleration" WTF |
OMG seriously. |
| This is painful. |
| They're going to blame "social stigma" as the reason why kids can't just off-ramp with the existing perfectly good off-ramps? |
If I remember correctly, CTY enforces applicants to take an IQ test, and only the ones pass the thresholds can take their advanced courses? Isn't this cohorting? |

Shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic won't help, when we have teachers saying they are glad that Compacted Math is being cancelled, because the math is too hard for the teacher.
|
Yes. |
| I guess this is more of a state of MD thing, not MCPS, but "Individualized Acceleration Plan" sounds like the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Take the time-consuming IEP process, and apply to all advanced students, instead of just putting them in classes at the appropriate level to challenge them. |
| The whole point of cluster grouping is that you *don't* have a group of gifted kids in every classroom! You clump or cluster them into one or a few classrooms to get to critical mass! They have no idea of what they're doing, or else they're lying... |
|
"A third grader should be able to compare numbers up to 10,000."
"An accelerated student will be given numbers up to 1,000,000!" They have no comprehension of what enriched math is AT ALL |
The point is to give parents a legal document they can use to overcome resistance from staff at MCPS. |
|
How is a teacher going to lead 3 lectures in the time she used to have for only 1?
|
| Okay they're saying they're not interrupting 4th graders in compacted currently... |
| Is the first confirmation that they are eliminating honors math for Algebra and up? |
