+1 Scoir can’t differentiate between the different programs. So 30% of kids are admitted to any one of the Northeastern programs, not just the Boston campus. I don’t get why some people are so triggered over this. You actually sent your kid there thinking it was 5%? |
So families relying on naviance and scoir are using bad data? Methinks Northeastern data is far more unreliable with their shady math. |
Idiot. Students are accepted to Northeastern University. It doesn't matter what campus. It's shady math. |
It is what it is. Their math is fine once you understand their admissions options. Naviance/Scoir can’t differentiate between admission to the Boston campus vs the many other options. So a kid who gets into the London program will mark it as “accepted”. It’s not that hard to be admitted to one of the Northeastern programs, but it is much harder to be admitted to the Boston campus. |
Seems like you’re the idiot if you don’t understand their admissions process and how data is reported on Scoir. |
What math don't you get it? Boston can accept less than 2800. You think magically somehow 18000 kids can come to Boston from sattlite campuses the next year? You can approximately double the 5% to 10% if that makes you happier. |
| For all the NEU haters- what ranking do you think NEU deserves? |
It’s an R1 research institution that manipulates its own data. The better question is - why doesn’t that upset you? |
|
Same old complaints...
My DC was rejected RD despite getting into better schools. Liked the school, its co-op structure, location, international presence and the first-hand reviews of many bright kids we know who've attended. She just didn't like it enough to ED and she paid that price. You know what? Neither of us are upset and we don't bad mouth the school. No hate whatsoever - they're maneuvering a challenging landscape on their own terms can and doing a good job of it. Good for them and good for the many kids who are getting exactly what they want. |
And...why do you care so much about ranking? |
You seem triggered because you don't understand math. Sad. |
+1 They offer a lot that students want today -- there is a reason why they get so many applications. It is hard to get into the Boston campus, less difficult for the alternate programs. And ED/EA gives a boost. |
It’s not “bad mouthing” if it’s true. I have no dog in this fight, but NEU’s dishonest marketing practices cheapen its reputation and taint the entire school. |
I don't actually care about their ranking. My child isn't going there but I keep seeing all these posts saying they're not nearly as good a school as their allegedly manipulated ranking suggests so just curious how people think they should really be assessed. |
DP, this person doesn't care much about ranking, but obsessed with acceptance rate. |
