When to do first gyn visit for teen?

It’s really hard and long waits to be seen by a gyn as a new patient with no issue. Don’t waste their time and take up needed spots to others. If my PCP was male or not well versed in women’s health, I would go to a GYN for pap smears and such.
If my PCP is female and well versed in women’s health and able to provide well-woman exams & Pap smears, able to provide prescriptions for contraceptives and a referral to specialists should I need one, why do I automatically need a GYN?

Because they are NEVER as versed in women's health as the GYNs. There is a reason the specialty exists. The only reason that PCPs offer pap smears is because they know people like you will likely not go to GYNs and not get them at all.

So what? If I have an issue that requires that level of specialization, I can go to a GYN. For my pregnancies I saw CNMs. For menopause I see a gyn who specializes in those issues. It does not follow that my teen must get to a gyn RIGHT NOW even though her PCP is already providing age-appropriate care.

You know that the ACOG has a vested interest in making sure you see a gyn every year, right? There's really no reason for an internal exam each year, unless perhaps you have changing partners.
