Have not sent any by mail but will give cards with gifts to cleaner/ teachers/ primary care doctors/ trash, recycling and yard pick up/ neighbors and of course immediate family.
Have received a bunch. |
| All Christmas cards seem to be is proof of life. They serve zero purpose. |
People like to be thought of and appreciated. That is one purpose among others. |
| We pared down our list again this year. I think we sent about 40. We’ve received 6 so far. Last year we received about 15 cards. I miss the days of getting dozens in the mail every December. |
| 40 out, 7 in so far |
That’s totally fine and does not hurt my feelings. It’s been so freeing not sending them at all, if it’s a burden to you I highly recommend it. I still send a couple cards to elderly relatives with a 4x6 family photo inside and a nice personalized message. As I’m approaching 50, I’ve realized the amount of people in the world I am truly connected to is not that many and that’s just fine. |

I’ll take things that old white people do for 200

I feel thought of and appreciated by the very few cards that someone has taken the time to even hand-write a very short greeting. Otherwise, if it went straight from your computer to Minted to the post and you didn’t even touch it, I feel absolutely nothing. It’s like someone printed out a Facebook post, like, OK. |
Oh yes, giving is all about what you get back, and greetings and good wishes are about standing there with wide eyes and pursed lips, making sure the other person says it back. It is a complete mystery why this process brings you no joy. |
Yes, it is admittedly a class thing…but that should be right up Dcumlandia’s alley. |
It’s part of kin-keeping. Yes, it is labor, mostly performed by women. But the purpose is kin-keeping, and if you are doing zero types of kin-keeping (actual holiday cards are not required, but it takes many forms), don’t complain about not having family/community connections. |
| ZERO sent, ZERO received. I feel so free of this outdated tradition. I'm grateful my network seems to have finally moved on. |
| We keep getting them. I haven't sent mine yet. Boxes, stamps right here but it seems so haaard. |
Wow, racist and ageist all in one post. Want to go for three with some sexism thrown in? |
