Most happy freshman so far

For someone considering Colgate for sports, I would love more info on that!

Although, I am currently on an Edith Wharton kick and the level of petty scrutiny and judgement by the biddies in her novels reminds me of this thread. I guess it was ever thus.

Lolz! Spot on

Freshman DD fell into a great, supportive friend group so is having a really positive experience. Work hard play hard. Says college boys are better than high school boys!

Yes, I heard very positive reports about Cornell, too. Quite social, which the reports here would never have suggested.

My DC freshman having a great time at Cornell. We didn't know what to expect, so we're happy at how things are going.

My niece was recruited there for hockey. Said all there was to do was drink or play sports. Too small, too cold and miserable and just not enough going on. She transferred Junior year to BC. Happier there but still not too happy so take this as an anecdote.

lots of kids at BC aren't happy either. it can be tough socially and there is also little to do.

+1
But I have no doubt whatsoever these posters are making up their "anecdotes" in order to boost certain schools and dump on others. It's so obvious.

This thread is making me nervous for my kid applying ED to Vandy!

Over the holidays had a bunch of friends over....here is what I gathered:

UVA, W&M, VT, JMU....all very happy! YAY for in-state schools and kids finding their right fit at each one. It was lovely to listen to their conversations.

UGA - Very happy like above.

Clemson - only one NOT happy. Social culture seems super tough, not much to do.

I have a Vanderbilt freshman and he is having an absolutely amazing time so far. Has a great group of friends (girls and guys), joined clubs and doing intramural sports, joining a fraternity.

Daughter incredibly happy at Brown. Maybe she's lucky, but in her area (humanities) she's finding the kids to be almost univerally kind, smart, interesting, unpretentious, and just genuinely open to meeting people and learning new things. Really good vibes.

How much was it? Asking for a friend … 😜

I get it re Colgate. Our friend’s kid transferred because it was a bad combination (for them) of small and isolated. They loved the academics, though. Great classes and professors first year! Transferred to a mid-sized private in a small city.

But for BC, I’m genuinely surprised to hear there’s “nothing to do” there. It’s a much larger school adjacent to a big city. How could a kid could be bored there?
