Davidson has a unique offering, as it provides the academic rigor of a top NE LAC, but the warmth of the South and a less cutthroat/more supportive and collaborative environment. That’s a sweet spot for many.

Throw in needs-blind admission, no-loan financial aid, D1 sports, and a beautiful campus and it’s hard to beat for a certain demographic.

Is Davidson popular to southerners? If so, from where, or more like Emory, more popular for south FL or tri state area?

Check out its demographics page. About a third of the students are from the South, with North Carolina being the most typical (but home state advantage is true of every school, including Harvard). Davidson gets a lot of kids from the Mid-Atlantic, NE, and West. It has a national reputation.

For my white son, he would choose Davidson over Bates at any second. So many NE lacs are no greek campuses, and whites being minority.

I have a son at Davidson and he loves it. There is a nice mix of people there.

The Greek system is very low key. For women, it’s eating houses. Women simply submit their house preferences, along with up to three friends, and a computer matches everyone. The frats are a bit more traditional, but not necessary for a robust social life. It’s a bit cliche, but kids love Davidson.

Nice try sneaking in the vile white supremacist viewpoint in an unrelated thread.

Only Whites would think that the school should be majority of its own race.

Not defending PP but it's common for Asians to think the majority of students at the school should be Asian. Many posts on this board like that.

No, Asians think that admissions should be mostly merit based without racial discrimination.

Race and class are factors for families who want to their kids to replicate their majority white, UMC experience.

Your’e neglecting the fact that Williams and Amherst only have one ED round while Davidson has two, increasing their yield

Put it this way. Chicago has 80% of the class admitted from ED0-ED3 rounds. EDs are binding, so they have to go to Chicago. So for 80% of Chicago’s class, the yield rate is 100%.

why does it matter? yield does not even factor in rankings. And Chicago has freshman stats better than most of the ivies.

Yield can be gamed easily. See Vandy with waitlist acceptances to around 15% of their class along with ED.

How about you do RD yield only and exclude waitlist numbers.

Swarthmore, Pomona and the rest of the selective LACs have ED2. Davidson’s yield still beats all of them, save Bowdoin and Pomona by a bit.

I see plenty of Asian people kicking their feet when they see merit based admission not immediately resulting in everyone being Asian.

Amherst would have to accept a lot of kids ED2 to make a difference because their current yield is a dreadful 39%. I say dreadful because given all the hoopla about the school, you’d think it would be much higher.
