DP. Just because a school has engineering and ag doesn't mean that's ALL they have. I see this attitude a lot when referencing certain schools and it's just silly. I have no connection to Clemson and even I know they offer a wide variety of majors, just as most state schools do.

Note that Vandy and WashU are going in a different political direction away from the Ivies as noted on another thread here today. May or may not matter to an applicant.

with friends kids at all of these but Columbia, it does not matter nearly as much as DCUM thinks, as far as the undergrad experience. All are left of center schools, and all had something like 80-20% votes Harris to Trump based on polls by college dems and republicans and the on campus visual politics last fall. Again, no on campus info on Columbia, but the rest were simply not too different for the 24-25 school year.

NYC TT, this year no Jewish kids go to Columbia.

I don't think that is true. My Conservative Jewish, kosher-keeping friend has a son who really liked Columbia when he visited in the Spring. He has pretty high stats and feels like this might be a great year to get into Columbia as a Jewish student. Less competition!

Definitely not true my reform Jewish DC is a CC class of '29 and his roommate is also Jewish (conservative). Not sure if it was easier for them to get in but situation on campus is much improved. He spoke with Jewish and non Jewish current students as part of his process (admitted RD, other choices included Rice, UMich, Berkeley and Williams) I spoke to both campus Chabad and Hillel before supporting his decision to accept and was greatly reassured, that was before the disciplinary actions re: Butler Library or the Trump settlement. If your friend's son is really interested encourage him to reach out to students and orgs on campus.

I will put a few in I haven't seen:

Brown (EDI):Tufts (EDII): Lehigh (RD)

Duke (EDI): Vandy (EDII): Wake Forest (RD)

Williams/Amherst (EDI): Pomona/Wesleyan(EDII): Occidental (RD)

First of all, you shall not ED at any LACs above. It's a waste.

Second, Vandy EDII is a crapshot. Don't do it.

I'm totally prepared to buy this, but they feel very random. Please explain the commonalities!

Meaning that the acceptance rate for Vandy EDII is the same as RD?

not sure what the PP means though the class sizes at the LAC's are small as are admit rates. For what it's worth I would think ED for class of 2030 might be more useful than in recent years given the demographic changes, issues with visas for international students and growing financial concerns at all colleges. They should all be quite interested in locking in a class. See UMich and USC adding ED.

Quite a few LACs fill over half their class with ED. Definitely not a waste.

In what worlds are Vandy and Amherst attainable schools? And if you’re planning for Comp Sci at CMU, forget it. It’s a harder reach than MIT

Aren't they all super reach? On steroid?

no, NU, HM and Mich are matches for top of the class kids at our private, with about 30-50% acceptance if in the top 5% and top rigor. CCO had data. Proved to be correct.

At what level of privates? Can you share your school name or equivalent?
