My 17 year old is doing this now. And loves the experience. FWIW, DC is not a counselor either, but in the evening hours has additional responsibilities to assist the camp counselors and the campers.

Agree that some here have never attended summer camp. I was a lifeguard at a camp and had additional responsibilities in the evenings.

I have attended summer camp and worked at summer camps. Summer camps aren't exempt from labor laws, that is everyone's point. Nostalgia and good will doesn't provide a free pass to skirt the law. I think it should be a requirement for 10th and 12th grader to take and intensive rights and labor law class/curriculum/seminar before they can graduate. We send uninformed people out out to the wolves to get taken advantage of. The lack of knowledge around labor rights is mind boggling.

Summer camps are exempt from many labor laws -- certainly minimum wage. If you or your kid loved working at a summer camp, that's great! But it definitely isn't for everyone and the pay is crap. If OP's son is getting something out of it and wants to stay, that's fine. But it is completely exploitive of teenagers and he should feel free to walk away and never go back.

PP here we are in agreement, did you not read waht I said?
