Is Tulane even that good?

It is a much better party school than NYU.

Clubbing in the village is more fun than musty, dingy bars in New Orleans.

I can speak to this subject VERY well. I have three kids, two of which have been enrolled at Tulane and we couldn't be more pleased....

1) Son, Tulane class of 2023. Economics major now working in strategy consulting in Boston. He sizes up well and has been well prepared when compared with his peers at his firm.

2) I have fraternal twins class of 2026. My son is junior at Tulane and my daughter is a junior at Emory. FWIW, my son seems to be having a very rich and rewarding experience at Tulane - both academically and socially. My daughter is doing well at Emory, too - but I don't get the sense she loves her overall experience there as much as both my sons have at Tulane.

Note: My son '23 and daughter '26 attended high school at MCPS. My son '26 attended a Maryland private HS.

The majority of my classes were less than 25 students I chose Tulane over many other "top schools" due to an incredible amount of merit aid. I visited the school for the first time on an admitted honors program student weekend and I was sold. I met top students from across the country. Yes, there was plenty of access to alcohol but there was also tons to do beyond parties. And honestly, after freshman year I rarely went downtown unless a friend was visiting from out of town. There are plenty of service opportunities and an excellent campus EMS program. I had great pre-med counseling and no issues with a direct admit to medical school.

Major?

History major with chemistry minor. Received a ton of AP credit so I was able to go abroad for a semester and take grad school classes in the School of Public Health my senior year.

And no, I was not black out drunk all through college. Two of my suitemates/closest friends didn't drink at all (all four years). There are so many wild generalizations here on DCUM about Tulane. My college friends are successful lawyers, judges, doctors, teachers, military officers, bankers, etc.

Who cares? It's fun for the kids. That's why they go. And Mardi Gras lol.

I have one kid at Tulane and another at Vanderbilt. I also COULD NOT BE happier with Tulane! I am so impressed with the "hominess" of the school, small class sizes, prof accessibility, and overall experience. I could go on and on about Tulane, I'm not sure why Tulane is so scorned here. It's an amazing university.

Tulane and Wake are basically the same caliber of student. Both seem like nice schools.

For a sporty kid (would play club sports) who loves going to games etc would it be a good fit?

I think the Tulane hate is from parents who can’t afford to send their kids there. They are stuck going to a state school that isn’t UVA or W & M and their ego can’t take it.

Yes. Div 1 Football with great games. Very good Baseball team. And you are 5 minutes from the Saints and Pelicans.
