nobody said celiac. Even just being able to have something like a hamburger without a bun. There is literally NOTHING on the menu that can even be customized for somebody with a gluten sensitivity that isn't to the level of celiac. The only thing they have is multigrain cereal.

Celiac is a thing. Gluten sensitivity is total BS. There are studies showing that gluten-free diets are actually harmful to children.

Please cite the studies showing that gluten-free diets are actually harmful to children.

Gluten is known to cause problems with autoimmune conditions, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, crohns disease, and ulcerative colitis

All of which, while real, serious, and deserving of regard, are not universal conditions among all children.

A GF diet is fine for everyone if you focus on naturally GF foods. But gluten free processed foods such as bread, cakes, cookies. pasta are mostly made from potato, rice and tapioca flours which means a non celiac would be MUCH better off eating the whole wheat alternative.

I'm not a teacher but I'm laughing too. The entitlement is real.

+1 This is a middle schooler. Let's say just one day he has to eat only fruit and a carton of milk for lunch. One single day in his whole life he has to get from 7:30 (breakfast) to 3:15 (after school) with only what can be salvaged from the school lunch. Isn't that a natural consequence that might help him remember his lunch moving forward?

Exactly, I would have told my kid "guess you'll remember your lunch next time" and stop worrying about it.

Also, I can't get over the fact that a seemingly healthy middle schooler is gluten free.

I mean, the one thing I believe OP about is that the kid gets stomach upset if he eats gluten. That's a thing that absolutely happens. Everything else is galaxy brained permissive parenting.

Some are allergic to wheat not gluten. Though if you are having a reaction to wheat it is most likely celiac. Wheat is in everything. A lot of times you will see something that should be okay but flour or a sauce is added that has gluten. It is almost impossible to eat out even salads(breadcrumbs or dressings) or a steak will have flour on it.

Any ideas on this discussion?:

No kitchen means can’t easily cook. Also, can’t easily reheat at school.

They can bring lunch meat, cheese, glutten free crackers (or bread), veggies, fruit, and other prepackaged snacks. This is silly. If they can afford a big remodel including a kitchen they can figure this out. This is a sensitivity not an allergy.

Since you insist on your kid buying, they have options in MS.

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/siteassets/district/departments/food-and-nutrition/menus/sy24-25/oct/ms/5380.25ggk_ms_menu_october.pdf

Salad, potatos, cauliflower, fruits, other veggies, yogurt and fruit.

They CAN find something to eat. THey just may not like it.

It’s basically zero protein there, you know.

Salads can have cheese on it, or meat. Some veggies have protien, yogurt has protein. Kid can go without protien for one meal. They aren't going to cater. Point is there is something that can be eaten. If you don't like it, you pack your kids lunch like the rest of us.
