Yeah, the 80s rocked.

My lord get another hobby besides raining on peoples parades. This shit is getting old. Start another thread of you want to talk about how shitty the 80’s were.

We’re talking the truth about the 80s. I easily had five friends I know that were sexually assaulted. Romanticizing about a time and creating an image of it that is unrealistic makes no sense.

SAHM’s Didn’t even let their kids in the house. The kids who were allowed to be in the house watching TV all day were the ones with working moms because the SAHMs moms were like get out drink from the hose.

I knew not one person SA’d but my now 22yr old knows 4 from date rape drugs.

The difference seems to be all the mothers are working now, in the hey day they were at home. Can't leave the 8yr olds home alone, so, off to camp they go!

Watched dirty dancing almost every day on vhs, rode my bike to the pool, read on the porch, evenings were lots of popsicles and freeze tag with neighborhood kids.

No, not necessarily. I know not everyone has the same situation, but it doesn't necessarily require a SAHM. Other relatives, neighborhood friends parents, older responsible teenage siblings, grandparents. This is how I was able to have these summers without a SAHM. And when I was old enough I stayed home myself.

My mom was a SAHM and I went to 8 weeks of day camp every single summer from the time I was four years old, until I was 14 and old enough to work. I was not going to camp to use it as a daycare.

A little boring here and there. I went to day and overnight camp up until I was 13 but they didn’t take up the whole summer. During non-camp time, it was slow but I wouldn’t say totally boring. Pool, hanging out with friends, rec centers family vacations.

As a teenager, I worked and did some summer college programs. I was pretty busy so there wasn’t a lot of downtime. When my friends and I started driving, we had a lot more freedom to do things at night.

In the 80s, parents didn’t schedule every minute. Mine were at work and I had to figure it out. I have my teen daughter in a few camps and we’ll go on vacation this summer but she’s going to have to learn how to figure out the downtime.

You didn't know, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. It did happen. At least as often as it happens now.

Also climbing things. Trees, big rocks, fences.

Hanging out by the radio with a tape recorder, waiting for That Song.

Guuuuys,
This is a true 80s thread. No one cared back then. That's why I prefer the present though I'm not young like I was back then.
Things arent as easily swept under the rug like they were back then.

So leave these people with their nostalgia. They really don't care.

Graduated in HS in 87. My summers were awesome! Pool parties (I was a lifeguard), hanging out with friends and driving into the city because we were oh so cool once we got our DLs. Great dance music, and with fake IDs, we went into hot NYC nightclubs and had a blast.

Oh ok. You're right. Kids aren't programmed today because their parents are working. They are all SAHMs who just can't deal. Glad you cleared that up.

Most parents have to work, and use camps etc for childcare.

For those who SAH or have summers off, more flexibility or grandparent help- the kids often do camps etc anyway because no other kids are around to play with anyway. They are all at camp.
